Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation: Tasks in the Kiev and Chernigov directions have been completed
The Russian Ministry of Defense issued an explanation regarding the refusal to attack Kyiv announced yesterday following negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul.
“A planned regrouping of troops is taking place in the Kiev and Chernigov directions.
At the first stage of a special military operation carried out by the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of Donbass and Ukraine, it was planned to force the enemy to concentrate its forces, means, resources and military equipment to hold large populated areas in these directions, including Kyiv. To bind them on the battlefield and, without storming these cities, in order to avoid casualties among the civilian population, inflict such a defeat on the armed formations of the Kyiv regime that would not allow it to use these forces in the main direction of action of our Armed Forces - in the Donbass.
All these goals were achieved.
At the same time, the Russian army was solving another problem, namely in the absence of an influx of fresh enemy forces from the western and central regions of Ukraine, through professional military operations, using gained absolute air superiority, also using modern high-precision weapons, to create all necessary conditions for carrying out the final stage of the operation to liberate the People's Republics of Donbass.
For this purpose, constant, targeted fire was carried out and continues defeat of the long-term defensive fortifications created by the Kyiv regime over eight years. All main lines of communication, supply and approach of reserves have been taken under full control. Ukraine's air defense systems, airfield infrastructure, largest military warehouses, training and concentration centers for mercenaries were destroyed. Work on them continues.
Thus, all the main tasks of the Russian Armed Forces in the Kiev and Chernigov directions have been completed.
The goal of the regrouping of the Russian Armed Forces is to intensify actions in priority areas and, above all, complete the operation for the complete liberation of Donbass,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
