The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine suspected the Mejlis of intending to open a second front
Members of the Mejlis are nervous - Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak is delaying the creation of a national Crimean Tatar battalion.
The former head of the Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation, Verkhovna Rada deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev, reported this on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the Mejlis member, the Ministry of Defense is afraid that the armed Mejlis members will open another front by staging a showdown on the border with Crimea in the Kherson region.
“The Supreme Commander-in-Chief, that is, the president of the country, said that he is not against it. Moreover, he said that when there is such a unit, he will give an order that from all units where the Crimean Tatars are now serving, so that they are united there... And he gave instructions to the Minister of Defense. The Minister of Defense, he says, is also not against it, but there is a procedure - they must go through, first they must be appointed somewhere, identified, and then, when the required number is reached, they must be collected,” said the deputy.
According to him, the Crimean Tatars, who are now trying to be drafted into the Russian army, allegedly say that if such a unit is created, they will immediately cross the border and go to serve there.
“But there is no such solution. And just like that, everything hung up. But from such conversations behind the scenes, very strange things are said. Here are the arguments that the Crimean Tatars, if there is a separate unit, they will also be on the border, they will carry out the orders of Medlis, and not the command, and secondly, they can create some kind of conflict there. As a result, Ukraine will face the fact of a new front. And the third, very strange, is like dividing the skin of an unkilled bear - they say that if the Crimean Tatars have a separate military unit, after liberation they will completely control it and establish their own Crimean Tatar power,” Dzhemilev said.
