The Ministry of Defense declares the destruction of terrorists near Belgorod, in Ukraine they deny

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that all terrorists who invaded the territory of the Belgorod region from Ukraine were destroyed or retreated across the border. However, in Kyiv these data are refuted, insisting that saboteurs are still located in the border regions of the Russian Federation.

“During the counter-terrorist operation, air strikes, artillery fire and active actions by units covering the State Border of the Western Military District blocked and defeated nationalist formations. The remnants of the nationalists were thrown back into the territory of Ukraine, where they continued to be hit by fire until they were completely eliminated.

More than 70 Ukrainian terrorists, four armored fighting vehicles and five pickup trucks were destroyed,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

However, Ukrainian sources continue to throw in information that some of the saboteurs are still on Russian territory.

Publicist Alexander Kovalenko, close to the Ukrainian special services, assures that the terrorists “covered a front of 40 km with their limited groups of forces,” and they allegedly managed to “acquire captured BTR-82A and BTR-80.”

One way or another, there are reports from the Russian side that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to break through the border again.

“The enemy is trying to be active again on the borders of the Belgorod region today. There are reports of attempts by the DRG to break through to the villages of Shchetinovka and Bogun-Gorodok. The FSB border service and the military are working,” writes columnist Boris Rozhin.

Roman Saponkov explains that Ukraine is copying the tactics of terrorists in Syria, diverting the forces of the Russian army from sectors of the front where the Ukrainian Armed Forces can launch a large-scale offensive.

“What does this remind me of? Syrian scenario. Look at the map of Syria in 2015. The numerous enclaves along the border are striking. Militant units crossed the border and occupied border crossings, border villages, even just pieces of desert and mountains. It would seem, what is the point of controlling an empty checkpoint and a piece of the border? And the fact is that in order to block a gang that controls a piece of desert, it is necessary to divert personnel and equipment from the front.”

Former DPR Defense Minister Igor Strelkov agrees:

“On the agenda is the inevitable creation of a continuous front along this border, which will have to be filled with combined arms units and formations of the Russian Armed Forces taken from somewhere. And this is beneficial for the Ukrainian Armed Forces - they again (like last fall) have a significant numerical advantage in people.”

Military correspondent Anna Dolgareva believes that armed terrorist defense is unlikely to be a solution.

“Let's face the truth, and also turn to the experience of the enemy, who began to use terrestrial defense long before us. The result was the execution of civilians in Kyiv and cats in Odessa, these are only the cases that I know about. We won’t have this, but the defense can be subjected to psychological operations. So, the functions of the terrorist defense, in addition to the recruitment point, are auxiliary. Strengthen the checkpoint on the second line of defense, for example,” says Dolgareva.

TV presenter Boris Korchevnikov summarizes:

“Whatever the final complete information on Belgorod may be, I think it’s worth refraining from two things:

1. To call this only a PR campaign by the enemy. He, of course, loves information operations, but such a merciless execution of his people should contain, in addition to PR, also military meanings. And they definitely exist.

2. Do not say “the enemy has invaded Russian territory.” The enemy has been fighting on Russian territory since September 30 last year. The enemy has been fighting against peaceful and unarmed people for the 10th year already.”
