Minsk accused the West and Ukraine of building up military forces on the borders with Belarus
Accusing Russia of “aggressive” exercises, Western countries and Ukraine are quietly concentrating troops near the border with Belarus and are not trying to establish dialogue.
The Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN, Valentin Rybakov, stated this during a meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Having made a lot of efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, our country remains ready to do everything possible to restore dialogue and mutual understanding in the region.
There is no alternative to the Minsk agreements, which played a key role in resolving the crisis. The negotiation process within the framework of the trilateral contact group, as well as the practical implementation of agreements in the zone of internal Ukrainian conflict, will allow us to bring the conflict in Ukraine onto a sustainable positive trajectory,” he said.
Valentin Rybakov also noted that the current meeting is an attempt to artificially escalate tension.
“Despite the concerns expressed more than once by representatives of the Republic of Belarus at international negotiation platforms and during bilateral contacts, the buildup of military forces on our western and southern borders not only does not stop, but is also becoming threatening.
Despite repeated calls for dialogue and cooperation, including in the field of arms control, pressure on our country from individual states is only increasing. Proposals to return to negotiations do not find a response from our Western partners,” the diplomat added.
At the same time, he emphasized that all joint Belarusian-Russian military exercises are exclusively defensive in nature, not posing a threat to anyone.
