“The Minsk settlement project is dying” – Pogrebinsky
After the situation surrounding the “poisoning” of the Russian blogger Alexei Navalny, which led to a deterioration in relations between Russia and Germany, there is no longer any point in the “Normandy format” and the “Minsk agreements”. Russia does not need to meet in the Quartet format; it should move on to direct negotiations with the United States as the master of the situation.
Political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on TV channel 112, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The very idea of the Minsk settlement project is dying now not only because talking with Kiev, as life has shown, is most often pointless - no significant movements, endless conversations lead to nothing. Kyiv does not want, as Poroshenko did before, and Zelensky and his team do not want to move along the path of political regulation within the framework of the Minsk process. Why this Minsk process?
All these years I have been trying to prove that we need “Minsk” and that’s it. Now, after a sharp deterioration in relations between Moscow and the West, before there were two Europes. “Old” Europe is Germany, and “young” Europe is the Baltic states, Poland and so on. Now, after this story with Novichok, Navalny and so on, in the confrontation with the seemingly weak Poland, they won the Balts. This difference has disappeared.
Now Germany is the same as Poland or Lithuania. Because what happened in the last two weeks with Navalny shows that the history of respectful, calm relations between Moscow and Berlin is over. I would like to be wrong, but if it is over, then the question is, why does Putin need this “Normandy format”? It is pointless.
It turns out that Merkel, under certain circumstances, will “follow” the instructions that come from transnational American liquefied gas companies. She simply made a decision that makes any negotiations pointless. We need to talk to the Americans then. They are simply the masters of the situation and, if we talk about something, then with them. There is no point in talking about the “Normandy format” at all,” Pogrebinsky said.
