Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov announced this during a meeting with members of the Russian government at President Vladimir Putin’s office, Portnews reports.
According to Sokolov, another ferry will be added to the Novorossiysk-Feodosia ferry crossing “literally this week,” and from July 2014 a cargo car ferry from the port of Temryuk to Kerch will begin operating.
Let us remind you that currently passenger and car ferry transportation is carried out through the Kerch Strait by four ferries. About 12 thousand people and 3,5 thousand cars are transported daily.
“In general, we plan to launch one ferry since July, it is the twin brother of the most powerful ferry “Ionas”, and thus transport more than 300 thousand passengers monthly through the Kerch ferry. This will make it possible to serve more than two million people in total by the end of the year - only through the Kerch crossing,” said Maxim Sokolov.
