The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation intends to eliminate the nest of seasoned foreign agents
The Russian Ministry of Justice asks to liquidate the Moscow Helsinki Group.
The case file appeared on the Moscow City Court website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
As Eva Merkacheva, a member of the Presidential Council for Human Rights, explained to us, the Helsinki Group is charged with the fact that “they, being a regional organization, organized events in other regions.” The group itself denies these accusations.
This news caused different reactions in Russian society.
“The period of Brezhnev’s stagnation has abruptly passed and we are rushing further back into Stalinism,” liberal political scientist Maria Snegovaya wrote in her TG channel.
“So we have lived to see these glorious times. The Helsinki group employed such “personnel” as Serge Kovalev, grandmother Lyuda Alekseeva and the like. The liquidation of such structures is another step towards cleansing the country of the legacy of Perestroika and the “saints of the 90s,” triumphs the leader of the Left Front, Sergei Udaltsov.
The Moscow Helsinki Group has worked in the USSR since 1976. She was subjected to pressure from the KGB. Until 2017, it was officially financed from Western funds. In 2006, the Moscow Helsinki Group was accused of receiving money from British intelligence services. MHG tried to prove in court that this was libel, but lost the case. Recently she supported the foreign agent organization Memorial.
