Peace and the return of Donbass are like death for the Kyiv authorities - Kozak
In the current situation of the conflict between Donbass and Ukraine, the Kyiv authorities are faced with a choice: peace or political and economic selfishness.
Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration Dmitry Kozak stated this in an interview with the French publication Politik International, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ending the conflict is unprofitable for the politicians who came to power for economic and political reasons. This is logical: when the guns fall silent, the Ukrainian leadership will face a number of difficult problems. These include significant costs for the restoration of Donbass, and, in particular, the disappearance of reasons and grounds for requests for external support for Ukraine. Citizens' expectations regarding reforms will increase.
Finally, the reintegration of Donbass will entail changes, the electoral consequences of which may not be in favor of the current government.
The President and Parliament of Ukraine are faced with a choice: political selfishness or peace for the citizens of Ukraine. They must make a choice. And the sooner the better. It appears that avoiding decision-making may have irreversible consequences for the current Ukrainian authorities both in domestic and foreign policy spheres,” Kozak said.
At the same time, he called the fact that the Ukrainian side categorically refuses to conduct a dialogue with the LDPR one of the key internal contradictions in the position of Ukraine and those who support this line.
“To exclude Donbass from the negotiation process means to reconsider the very meaning and content of the Minsk agreements. The Set of Measures states in black and white that the subjects of the settlement with the right to a decisive vote are exclusively Ukraine and Donbass - without any intermediaries and without reservations.
I strongly recommend that everyone who declares their commitment to the Minsk agreements familiarize themselves with these documents, if only to avoid falling into a logical trap.
Without a radical revision of the Minsk agreements, without a decision of the UN Security Council, it is [impossible] to deprive Donetsk and Lugansk of their own negotiating mandate,” explained the representative of the Russian President.
