The world is returning to a series of unresolved military conflicts
The United States is preparing for confrontation with Russia and China, but at the same time continues to increase its capabilities to participate in local conflicts.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed by a junior researcher at the Center for North American Studies at IMEMO named after E.M. Primakov RAS Ilya Kramnik.
“Now, in principle, the situation from the Cold War is repeating itself. Both sides - China and the United States - are building up their military capabilities. At the same time, they pursue two goals at once. On the one hand, this is being done in order to wage war if necessary, on the other hand, so as not to have to resort to military action,” Kramnik told Izvestia.
According to him, no one is immune from local conflicts of various kinds, which can grow and multiply.
“If we talk about American preparations, on the one hand, they are beginning to increase their capabilities to confront large countries such as Russia and China. On the other hand, they continue to prepare for local conflicts, which consist of maintaining a guaranteed technical level that allows these conflicts to be fought with minimal losses,” the expert notes.
According to him, the problems in the conflicts that the United States faces, for example, in Iraq and Afghanistan, are mainly not of a military, but of a political nature.
“You can win battles on the field, but this will not give the desired political result due to the fact that there are opposing forces on the other side, which are directly or indirectly supported by other major world players. Gradually, the world of long, unresolved military conflicts is now returning, with simultaneously growing threats of a possible clash between major powers. It’s difficult to say whether these threats will be realized or not,” Kramnik concluded.
