There will be no peace: The exchange of prisoners turned out to be a Ukrainian election performance
The negotiations in Minsk between Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk and the leadership of the LDPR, advertised in the media, as a result of which the Donbass republics should hand over to Kiev four people convicted of war crimes, are by no means a harbinger of the onset of peace, but a banal PR campaign of Medvedchuk’s party with an eye on the elections to the Verkhovna Rada.
Donetsk military correspondent Denis Grigoryuk discusses this in his blog, explaining that this version is supported by the nervous reaction of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who stated that the release of prisoners was not agreed with him by Medvedchuk.
“Still, there will be no peace. All this is just a game of individual Ukrainian politicians. Medvedchuk’s peace initiatives are a PR move before the elections to the Verkhovna Rada. This is not speculation, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated this.
That is, a person without authority agreed with the Donbass republics on an exchange in order to show the electorate in Ukraine that they are truly a pro-life party. By the way, the head of the LPR Leonid Pasechnik said during the announcement of the results of the negotiations in Minsk that it was at the instigation of the For Life party, and not at the initiative of official Kyiv, that the upcoming exchange would take place.
Zelensky is angry. Klimkin ignores him, Medvedchuk is unauthorized, and the showman is out of work. Could the reaction of the Ukrainian President affect the exchange? Quite.
And, considering what is happening now in Donbass, I mean the escalation at the front, then everything is quite logical. Medvedchuk uses his trump cards to get into parliament, and the army, subordinate to the president, carries out the policy of the state - that is, war,” states the military correspondent.
