“To be honest, I can’t imagine how Ukraine can return Crimea. I don't know and don't understand how this can be done.
I communicate with Crimeans, and for the most part they are happy. Teachers and doctors used to receive 3-000 hryvnia, now - approximately the equivalent of 4-000 hryvnia. There are medicines in hospitals and no one asks for money for surgery, treatment or medicine.
Yes, there are certain difficulties associated with the transition period - previously there were 60 trains a day to Crimea, this season there were only 17, Ukraine does not fly to Crimea, does not provide water to the peninsula, there are difficulties with the delivery of food and the arrest of re-registered vehicles, on which Crimeans travel to the mainland. I'm afraid that there will soon be a problem with electricity. Ukraine is experiencing a shortage of electricity and can simply redirect the flow of electricity that goes to Crimea to solve its internal problems.
But all these are temporary problems. In order for Crimea to have its own water, 500-600 deep-water artesian wells are needed - this is about 9 billion hryvnia. To have electricity, you need to install gas generators. Crimea consumes 2,2 billion cubic meters of gas and produces 2,6 billion cubic meters. This reserve can be converted into electricity. Time and money are what Crimea needs to get rid of these problems.
Ukraine is pushing away the Crimeans with all its actions. They will not return to a country that has cut off their water, does not allow transport, does not bring in food, does not return deposits from banks and threatens to cut off electricity. Although, it would seem, Ukraine, on the contrary, should think about Crimea and the Crimeans and do everything possible to make them feel comfortable. So that Ukraine is seen as friendly, and the citizens of Ukraine who live on the peninsula feel not forgotten and protected,” argues Mirimsky.
