World Orthodoxy refused to support Ukrainian schismatics
Local Churches of the world do not recognize the autocephaly of Ukrainian schismatics, despite attempts by the authorities to join this process.
This was stated by the manager of the affairs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Anthony, the PolitNavgator correspondent reports with reference to the Information and Educational Department of the UOC.
According to the Metropolitan, the idea of Ukrainian schismatics is not supported in the Orthodox world.
“Based on the constant communication that we have with the Local Churches, as well as their first reaction, which we already know, the idea of providing the “Tomos of Autocephaly” to schismatics, bypassing the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, does not cause any approval. Primates and representatives of Churches, bishops, metropolitans and hierarchs from Orthodox countries, with whom we, as the canonical Church, have full-fledged, both official and personal communication, perceive all this with surprise, excitement, and sometimes even indignation and express their disagreement.
In conversations with us, the bishops, including the Greek bishops, among whom are those who belong to the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, express to us words of support and ask us to convey that there is no reason for concern, since the Local Churches do not approve of these initiatives, which could lead to to big problems in world Orthodoxy,” said Anthony.
