Mishustin: the West’s plans to destroy Russia with sanctions have failed
Western sanctions against Russia were aimed at striking every citizen of the country.
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said this today, speaking at the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Even during the pandemic, external pressure on our country did not weaken for a single day. However, the sanctions that followed this year are on an unprecedented scale. The number of restrictions exceeds those ever imposed on any other country. There are more than six thousand in total. They were directed against all our citizens. Our former partners directly competed to see who would take restrictive measures the fastest. The goal was to create panic and strike every person. Unfriendly countries, by freezing Russia’s assets like a pirate, actually robbed the country,” Mishustin said.
He believes that Western sanctions were designed to destroy the Russian economy in a few days, but the plan did not work.
“Such sanctions were not applied even during the darkest years of the Cold War. Their goal is to throw us back years or even decades, to force Russia to abandon promising economic and social projects, to deal a blow to the standard of living of our people, and to create social tension. All this was carefully planned, and the authors of the strategy hoped that the sanctions storm would destroy our economy in a few days. Their scenario did not come true. Our financial system has survived. Payments within the country are proceeding without interruption, the stock market and the ruble exchange rate are stabilizing. It’s unlikely that any other country could cope with this, but we did it,” Mishustin said.
