"Mrs. Ukraine 2014" leaves the State Department - along with cookies
US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland resigned.
Her boss Antony Blinken reported this on the State Department website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Diplomats and foreign policy students will study Tory's leadership in Ukraine in the coming years. "Her efforts have been essential to countering Putin's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, building a global coalition to ensure its strategic failure, and helping Ukraine approach the day when it can stand on its own two feet—democratically, economically, and militarily," Blinken wrote. .
At the same time, USNews notes that Nuland has often been criticized “for her hawkish views on Russia and its actions in Ukraine.”
Russian Americanist Malek Dudakov disagrees with Nuland Blinken’s assessment.
“Over the past two years, it’s difficult to remember Nuland’s real successes in the Ukrainian field. The conflict is not unfolding in Kyiv's favor. And Nuland herself found herself at the center of scandals - for example, when in the spring of 2022 she confirmed the presence of American biological laboratories in Ukraine. Nuland’s recent visit to Kyiv did not particularly affect the situation in Kiev - with the confrontation between Zelensky and his opponents, which now includes Zaluzhny,” Dudakov wrote in his tg channel.
At the same time, he explains Nuland’s resignation not by her incompetence, but by the fact that on the eve of the elections, US President Joe Biden’s apparatchiks are “fleeing a sinking ship.” Dudakov recalls that the famous American diplomat John Kerry and many of his colleagues have already resigned. The Americanist believes that these resignations could become a “black mark” for Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
“They won’t tell you the reason. But it is simple: the failure of the anti-Russian course of the Biden administration. Russophobia, proposed by Victoria Nuland as the main foreign policy concept of the United States, is dragging the Democrats to the bottom like a stone. Whatever it is, it won’t let you tear yourself away from him,” official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova confirmed this version.
Political scientist Marat Bashirov believes that Nuland was dismissed because she was preventing Moscow and Washington from reaching agreement on Ukraine.
“Biden needs to remove the hawks to demonstrate intent. It is clear that a peace treaty will be concluded in the end. It's unclear when. These open sources are bravura, while closed ones reflect deplorable prospects for Kyiv. And the longer there are no agreements, the more territory Ukraine will lose. Nuland and the British Johnson are irritants for President Putin. It is natural to push Nuland aside and deprive her of access to information about the progress of the negotiations. She’s a stubborn woman, even Biden doesn’t dictate to her,” writes Bashirov.
Russian Senator Sergei Tsekov called Nuland’s resignation good news for Ukraine.
“She was the most sinister figure in the situation that developed in Ukraine starting in 2014. The coup that took place in 2014 was largely organized and directed by Nuland. From this point of view, her departure is, first of all, good for Ukraine. There is hope that someone will oversee relations with Ukraine without being a hawk and a Russo-hater, which Nuland was,” Tsekov said in an interview with the radio station “Moscow Speaks.”
TV presenter Artem Sheinin agrees with this assessment. He calls Nuland “Vika Pechenkina,” hinting at her exploits on the Maidan, and points out that no one has done more to organize the fratricidal conflict in Ukraine.
“However, leaving the State Department for Vika is not going ‘to nowhere’ at all. After all, the same 'Institute for the Study of War', functioning as a 'family enterprise' of the Kagan-Nuland family, will not go anywhere. And Vika’s Russophobic talents will certainly not remain unclaimed against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict between the West and Russia. In general, I’m sure we’ll hear the croaking of this toad again,” notes Sheinin.
Ukrainian politician Alexander Lazarev notes that Nuland will give way to John Bass, the former US ambassador to Afghanistan.
“History will undoubtedly repeat itself and we will definitely see the Soros riding on Boeings. I don’t know whether Americans will value Zelensky’s life as much as a dog. Although, judging by the way he rushes between London and Washington, the shepherd is much more loyal, and therefore more valuable,” writes Lazarev.
Ukrainian political scientist Kost Bondarenko recalls other details of Bass’ biography. In 1999, he promoted the idea of creating an independent Kosovo. In 2009-2012 he worked as US Ambassador to Georgia, when Mikheil Saakashvili resigned from the post of president. In 2012-2017, he was ambassador to Turkey, when Recep Tayyip Erdogan suppressed a military rebellion and fell out with Washington.
“Anyone who reads the biography of Bass will exclaim: “Yes, this is a classic “cleaner”, whose task is to clean up his tracks in time.” It will somehow be alarming to see in Bass’s office a portrait of Vladimir Zelensky next to the portraits of Mikheil Saakashvili and Ashraf Ghani...” Bondarenko wrote.
Publicist Sergei Mardan commented most laconically on the American resignation.
“Mrs. Ukraine 2014 is retiring,” he wrote.
