First Deputy Head of the OSCE SMM Alexander Hug announced this at a briefing at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center.

“Last week, the mission noted an increase in the number of ceasefire violations by 60% compared to the week before. We recorded more than 9 thousand violations last week - this is the highest weekly figure since mid-June,” Hug said.

He added that most of the shelling (30%) took place in the Avdiivka-Yasinovataya-Donetsk airport triangle.

Earlier, Hug noted that in winter, fighting in the Donbass could escalate sharply due to weather conditions: it is much easier to move heavy weapons on frozen ground.

Hug also stated that ceasefire violations have been steadily increasing over the past weeks. In some sections of the almost 500-kilometer line of contact, the parties to the conflict are so close that they can see each other, he recalled. Hug added that tanks, artillery weapons and multiple launch rocket systems are used again and again in Donbass.
