The organizer of the action was the public movement “Defend Sevastopol”. The picketers demanded that the governor provide a report on the work done for the year before resigning.
The beginning of the rally was marked by a conflict between the organizers of the rally and the police officers, since the former felt that their rights were being grossly violated.
Russian folk songs were played loudly from street speakers on light poles, drowning out the speakers' words, which organizers believed was done deliberately by city authorities to disrupt the event.
The police did not see anything reprehensible in Russian folk songs.
The speakers complained to the governor that at the end of the transition period, there was no improvement in the well-being of citizens due to the fact that the government was riddled from top to bottom with corrupt officials and representatives of the old elite, which entailed a whole list of serious problems in the life of the city.
According to the loud statement of the chairman of the public movement “Defend Sevastopol” Vasily Fedorin, everyone “perfectly” knows “how deputy governors are appointed.”
“Most of them have a dubious past, a criminal past, I would even say so,” the public figure emphasized. “This cannot be allowed,” he added.
The topic was developed by the secretary of the Sevastopolgaz initiative group, technician, and employee of the enterprise, Elena Listopad. She is sure that there is a systematic robbery of the population in Sevastopol, the reason for which is “Firtashev’s leaders.”
“As of today, no response has been received for 27 million rubles from the Cadet Corps; there is no audit reporting. After Menyailo’s arrival, everything was cleaned up and Firtashev’s henchmen were appointed to our leadership. To date, we have received 900 million from Putin for gasification of Sevastopol, and now our corrupt leadership is starting to fire our workers. Fire everyone who is a veteran, who begins to raise their voice, who speaks back to them, who is not silent. To date, more than 10 people have been laid off - production veterans, qualified employees of Gorgaz. To date, the leadership remains Firtashev's. We feed the ATO with the profits of Sevastopolgaz workers. I'm not afraid to talk about it. Quite simply, there is no report. Why are the leaders appointed by Firtash appointed? Why hasn’t the management been changed yet and all workers not been retrained,” Listopad wonders.
The coordinator of the public movement “Let's Protect Sevastopol,” Alexander Karlyuk, in turn, explained to the audience that “as long as the person Sergei Menyailo holds the post of governor, nothing will happen in Sevastopol, the situation will only get worse.”
“Everything that the federal center does, all the finances that are allocated to Sevastopol, they are simply stolen. An example is roads. Last year, 300 million rubles were allocated for the repair and construction of new roads. Where? Where are these 300 million? I want to take this governor, bring him by the arm and ask – tell me, where did you bury this money, where is it?” Karlyuk became interested.
The situation, in his opinion, is similar with housing and communal services, and the queue for kindergartens “has tripled over the past year.”
“There is only one way out. We must ask Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to finally make a decision to remove the governor of Sevastopol from his post. There is no other way out. We have already gone through all the stages, starting from the prosecutor’s office, which does not want to consider our allegations of corruption of government bodies, to the Investigative Committee, which seems to be opening cases and seemingly not opening cases. And all this is in such a current state that nothing is being investigated, nothing is being investigated. Everything in this city, in this territory, is controlled by only one mafia structure. This mafia structure sits in this house, next to which we are standing - this is the house of the government. Either we solve this problem, or this mafia will crush us. I believe that Menyailo has resigned,” he concluded his speech.
