The main speaker at today's rally on the square. Lenin was the co-chairman of the provisional government of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” Denis Pushilin, Navigator’s own correspondent reports.
Pushilin conducted a brief educational program about why the “Donetsk People’s Republic” was declared and about further steps.
“We asked and convinced for a long time. We just needed a referendum,” he said, emphasizing that residents of Donetsk simply want to choose for themselves which monuments to erect and “in what language to dream.”
“We can only defend victory through a referendum. All we want is for the people to have their say. A referendum has been announced for May 11. There are a lot of provocations about this. But everything is ready for the referendum,” he emphasized.
According to him, everyone knows perfectly well what people want. But in order to have the support of the international community - the “Russian brothers” - everything must be carried out legally correctly.
“Do you support the act of state independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic,” he recalled, to the approving “yes” of those present, the question that will be included in the ballot.
“Having sovereignty, we can decide: to be in a federation or a confederation, or to be independent,” Pushilin said.
The issue of the information vacuum, in which, according to supporters of the “Donetsk People’s Republic,” they find themselves, was separately considered.
In order to eliminate it, the rally participants moved to the Donetsk television center.
After negotiations with law enforcement officers, an initiative group was able to enter the building and voiced a demand for the return of Russian channels.
While negotiations were underway with the leadership of Regional TV, the Ukrainian flag was removed from the roof of the building, and instead of it, the DPR flag immediately appeared there to the approving exclamations of those present.
