A rally “Freedom for political prisoners of the Kremlin” was held in Kyiv, organized by pro-Western grant anti-Russian organizations - “Crimean House” and “Platform for the Release of Political Prisoners,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The action brought together about three dozen people, including members of the Mejlis banned in the Russian Federation and Ukrainian NGOs. The reason for it was the detention in Crimea in September of Mejlis member Nariman Jelal, who is accused of organizing and carrying out sabotage.

However, the speakers at the rally included in the list of victims of “political repression” and those convicted the day before, members of the terrorist organization Hizb-ut-Tahrir, banned in the Russian Federation (although during the time of Ukraine, the Mejlis criticized it as potential competitors for its influence).

“Our people are scattered throughout all the prisons of the aggressor country. They are taken out of Crimea, they are tried outside the borders of Crimea. When people gather in Simferopol to at least at a distance express support for those who are being tried in Moscow or Rostov, they are dispersed by the Russian Guard,” said the head of the Mejlis, Refat Chubarov, in his speech.

He said that it is necessary to ensure that Europe refuses Russian gas.

“You can demand their release from the Russian Federation, but all this is ineffective. We must find such forms of pressure on our state, on our international partners, so that they take measures that will force Russia to release the Kremlin’s political prisoners, as well as return to the boundaries of international law.

In our circle of experts and human rights activists, we do not find any more effective tools that could be than an embargo on Russian energy resources, on Russian oil and gas.

We know that it is almost impossible to force our partners to do this, but we in the Majlis talk about it and try to convince them. Just two weeks ago we had meetings with the Commissioner of Germany and the delegation of the Czech Senate. The West will have to implement very costly measures. An embargo is a lot of money that will have to be paid in order to stay without Russian oil and gas,” Chubarov said.

He feared that if an embargo was not introduced today, then tomorrow Russia could start the Third World War.

His deputy, Akhtem Chiygoz, emphasized in his speech that the Ukrainian authorities also need to get rid of purchases of Russian energy resources.

“We need to unite pressure and apply sanctions against the enemy. But, unfortunately, we must start here first. From our state, from our government. Because our government is now trying to reopen cooperation with Russia and purchase energy resources from Russia. Our state needs to be an example of pressure. And then the partners will be more decisive,” said Akhtem Chiygoz.

Among the speakers was also Oleg Sentsov, who recalled his arrest in Crimea on charges of terrorism, saying that he had been subjected to “moral rape.”

“I remember how it happened to me in 2014. This is violence, moral rape, when invaders walk around your city, armored personnel carriers drive around. Many people died then, including my loved ones. Crimean Tatars were tortured, some have not yet been found.

Then the war in Donbass began. This is also a continuation of that Maidan, because we fought for our freedom, for the right to live the way we want, but we are not given this. And now these guys, Nariman and hundreds of others who are in captivity, they are also in this war, hundreds of prisoners who are there with the aggressor because we want to be free, we want to decide for ourselves how to live and we don’t want to be in Russian slavery anymore,” Sentsov said.
