The protesters did not allow Poroshenko to lay flowers: Ukraine is promised “big blood”
The traditional laying of flowers by the Ukrainian leadership at the monument to Taras Shevchenko, which takes place in Ukraine on March 9 on the birthday of the “father of the nation,” was disrupted by protesters.
Activists broke through to the monument, despite the fact that the area around was fenced off, and security officers were working there with metal detectors. Observers estimate their number from 100 to 500 people. The protesters themselves spoke of several thousand, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Ukrainian media name Mikheil Saakashvili as the organizer of the “Rukh of New Forces” rally, but not a word was said about “Mikho” at the rally. The speakers only condemned the “brutal dispersal” of the tent city on Grushevsky Street. At the makeshift podium, banners in English were unfurled: “Impeachment” and “Poroshenko is not my president.”
The floor at the rally was given mainly to ATO participants who spoke negatively both towards Russia and towards the West, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They write to me and say: look what you have achieved, what you have done to Ukraine. Yes, this is actually true. But my brothers-in-arms, living and dead, did not want this. But we do everything clumsily. To build a new Ukraine, I’m telling you this as a builder, you need to clear the place. Not only a lot of blood awaits us, yes, blood, but also very hard work,” said Andrei Pastushenko with the call sign “Sivy”.
The activists themselves laid flowers at the monument to Kobzar and did not leave until noon - at which time a ceremony was scheduled with the participation of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. As a result, the official assignment was canceled.
