Kyiv, September 01 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – If the Ukrainian authorities continue to insist on US participation in negotiations on the fate of Donbass, China should also be invited there, political scientist Denis Denisov said at a round table in Kiev.

“Of course, the Kiev authorities must understand that only through the negotiation process is it possible to resolve the situation. This could be negotiations with representatives of the so-called. DPR and LPR. If it is more convenient for them, then this could be an expanded format to include representations of the EU and Russia. If the United States is going to be involved, then I would like China to also participate in order to balance the sides,” he said.

“There is a bloc of states led by the United States that clearly regard the events of recent days as an invasion, but at the same time do not provide any evidence, as is traditionally the case especially with the leader of this bloc, the United States.

There is also a group of countries that are trying to maintain neutrality. This is, first of all, China and some Asian and African countries. There is a position of the Russian Federation, which focuses on the fact that there is indeed a humanitarian catastrophe currently occurring in the east of the country. In Russia alone there are now 810 thousand refugees from eastern Ukraine. And this is both a tragedy for the region and a big problem for Russia. Attention was also focused on the closed nature of the investigation into the crash of the Malaysian plane. The Russian representative openly asked the Ukrainian representative whether Ukraine had transmitted data from the dispatchers' communications. To this, the representative of Ukraine replied that “we are cooperating” and that’s all. This is some kind of strange position,” Denisov noted.

He also criticized Petro Poroshenko's recent statement about a Russian invasion.

“If this is an invasion, the president is obliged to introduce martial law, as provided for by the laws of Ukraine. One gets the impression that either we once again do not want to implement this law, as has happened more than once over the past six months, or this is a good face against a bad game. The explanation that martial law was not introduced because then financial support for Ukraine would be stopped does not stand up to criticism. In fact, this is a controversial issue - in history there have been many cases of financial support during war. The same applies to military-technical assistance. Any war over the past 20 years has been accompanied by such support. In this context, the vague reservations of the Kyiv authorities raise more questions than they provide answers,” the expert said.
