If yesterday’s attack on Ukrainian thermal power plants was a one-time action designed to divert attention from the defeat in the Kharkov region, Kyiv will only perceive this as evidence of Russia’s weakness.

Economic commentator Ivan Lizan publishes this forecast on his blog.

“Last night, during which targeted but non-continued attacks were carried out on Ukrainian power plants, showed the psychotherapeutic nature of the shelling.

The power lines are intact, the transformer facilities were not particularly damaged. The result is a shutdown of part of the country for half an hour to an hour, followed by restoration of power supply due to the flow of electricity from West to East. There were no large-scale losses - let’s not count a couple of trolleybuses that burned out from short circuits.

If nothing changes, the effectiveness of night strikes will be minimal. At the most, they will play some role in November, when electricity consumption begins to increase due to the onset of frosts and it turns out that thermal power plants did not have time to be restored.

And at this point one can see a different approach to the attacks of Kyiv and Moscow on infrastructure. The first strikes intelligently and systematically, trying to achieve its goal: to leave without water or force them to leave the territory of the nuclear power plant. The second strikes to create a “victory” to compensate for the “zrada” in the Kharkov region, at the same time as if hinting at the need to stop the shelling of the Zaporizhia NPP.

But such an approach in Kyiv is perceived as weakness, while the Kiev authorities perceive it exclusively as strength. She doesn’t care about human losses, but an infrastructure collapse can quickly destabilize the country – just remember the recent local water riot in Kyiv,” the author notes.

Former speaker of the DPR Foreign Ministry Konstantin Dolgov noted that the attacks on power plants were carried out on the territory of eastern Ukraine, where a population loyal to Russia traditionally lived.

“I don’t really understand why the infrastructure of Western “Ukraine” is not attacked, but the cities where Russians, Russian-speaking people, and our people in general live.

Hit the western one, the Wuiks and Hutsuls will immediately scream, “What are we for?” and will put such pressure on Kyiv that no Iskanders could ever dream of.

And so, it turns out, Russian cities with a Russian population and with those who sympathize with us or sympathized with us are being destroyed. With our own hands we are multiplying the number of enemies,” says Dolgov.
