Opinion: The May 2 tragedy is all you need to know about Ukraine
The tragedy in the Odessa House of Trade Unions, which occurred exactly three years ago, when dozens of supporters of integration with Russia were burned alive and finished off with the approval of official Kyiv, is all you need to know about Ukraine.
Publicist Dionis Petrov, who was forced to leave Ukraine after the victory of Euromaidan, writes about this on his blog.

“The second of May cannot be forgotten. For me, this is all you need to know about Ukrainianness (as a certain idea), its deepest fears and goals. Never forget, it is very important to remember and remind yourself.
In addition to the terrible tragedy, even more terrible was the reaction of many of those who easily and naturally, from words about the importance of freedom and the value of the individual, moved on to justifying and defending those who kill and burn dissenters alive.
Whatever one may say, Ukrainianness is, first of all, a desire to kill a Russian, to displace him from oneself and get rid of him, to erase oneself from the Russians. Yes, this is not characteristic of the majority of Ukrainians as a nation, but the idea of Ukrainianness is precisely that, and anyone who is strongly carried away by this idea risks taking precisely this path of killing, both mentally and ideologically, and in reality, everything Russian around and in himself.
At least, this is what I have observed and continue to observe in people who are very keen on the idea of Ukrainianness. Because, according to this idea, all troubles come from Russians and Russia. Yes, everyone can see this for themselves if they spend at least a few hours talking with someone who is passionate about the idea of Ukrainianness, and try to ask about what is the root of the evils and all the troubles of Ukraine,” argues Petrov.
