Opinion: The threat of extradition of militias to Ukraine from Belarus is real
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko may agree to extradite to Ukraine arrested fighters of the Russian PMC who previously took part in hostilities in the Donbass.
Political observer Yuri Baranchik stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“Of course, Lukashenko can extradite them - he has not been an ally of Russia for a long time, he simply used the factor of Russian subsidies in order to receive support for the Belarusian economy. Therefore, this is quite possible,” the expert said.
“This all fits into the election campaign of Lukashenko, who has very low ratings and therefore the question is about declaring a state of emergency, and for this all methods are good,” he explained.
The analyst believes that the incident with PMCs is another reason to think about the fact that “a new foreign policy needs to be pursued in Belarus.”
“First of all, in the field of economics. It is necessary to educate our own elites - there is no need to work with the elites of the post-Soviet space, we need to cultivate our own elite, people who will defend certain beliefs. But this has never been done,” Baranchyk said.
