“A lot of imported equipment” - an expert on the problems of the oil and gas sector of the Russian Federation
The Russian oil and gas complex uses a large amount of foreign equipment, which is difficult to replace due to the fact that the military-industrial complex has taken over some of the capacity.
Energy expert Sergei Vakulenko stated this on the German TV channel DW, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we assume that the war will continue, the situation, plus or minus, will be the same as it is now. What are the main problems facing the Russian energy sector, oil and gas? – the presenter asked.
“In all that advanced equipment of the oil and gas complex there are quite a lot of imported spare parts. And everything in the world deteriorates over time, everything wears out, everything needs to be changed, and sooner or later these things will have to be changed too. You can fix it, but it’s still difficult.
One of the biggest problems of the Russian oil and gas complex, oddly enough, is energy supply. A large Siberian field consumes one gigawatt of electricity. This is comparable to one large nuclear power unit. This electricity is generated directly at the field using gas turbines,” Vykulenko said.
He emphasized that this problem may arise during the construction of new gas pipelines.
“And when Gazprom builds Power of Siberia-2, there should be pumping stations every 300-400 kilometers, which must receive energy from somewhere. From the same gas turbines.
It is basically impossible to get Western ones. In Russia, in principle, they know how to make gas turbines, but gas turbines are made at the same factories that make jet engines for military and civil aircraft.
And the oil and gas industry will only be third in line, and these factories have a rather limited possibility of mass production,” the expert concluded.
