“Russia must withdraw troops and ammunition from the territory of the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, we are open to finding opportunities to improve trade and economic relations between the two countries,” said the Moldovan Prime Minister.

She assures that she stated this during negotiations with official representatives of the Kremlin. In the context of Transnistria, she wants to cooperate with Ukraine.

“It’s hard to say what Russia’s plans actually are. We have no illusions. We know well that Russia wants to maintain its influence in the region, including in Moldova,” Sandu said.

Meanwhile, Sandu’s ally in the pro-European ACUM bloc, Member of the Moldovan Parliament Alexandre Slusari, said today in Moscow that the republic really needs the Russian market.

“I love Russian culture, it is a world heritage. Therefore, I think that we will be able to improve relations. We really need the Russian market, we need to solve problems with transport and gas. We have these problems, and I am pleased that we can now solve this without mercantile interests, but on the basis of an open dialogue,” the DumaTV website quotes Slusar.

This statement is more emotional than even the words of the speaker of the Moldovan parliament, Zinaida Greceanii, who represents the Socialist Party, which is considered pro-Russian.

“For the first time in many years, Moldova has the opportunity to build a truly balanced foreign policy based on respect for generally accepted values and mutually beneficial cooperation both in the West and in the East. We don't want to be friends with someone against someone. We have a unique chance to restore both Russian-Moldovan relations and relations with our other partners,” Greceanii said today from the rostrum of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

Today's dissonance in the statements of Moldovan pro-European politicians is already the second time when the opinions of ACUM members regarding Russia differ radically. At the PACE vote on the return of the Russian delegation, Slusar’s party member Andrei Nastase voted for, and Sandu’s party member voted against.
