This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Belarus Andrei Ravkov.
“What is the point of placing an air base on the territory of Belarus? There’s no point yet,” he said.
Ravkov noted that NATO bases may soon appear on the border with Belarus.
“Our neighbors, especially the newly elected President of Poland, are asking NATO, and they have agreed to place four bases for various purposes, including aviation, in close proximity to the border of Belarus. So maybe we will take some kind of weapons that can inflict defeat on these objects in a timely manner in the right place? This will be much more effective than an air base,” noted the Minister of Defense of Belarus.
Ravkov emphasized that consultations on the conditions for placing a Russian air base in Belarus have been completed. However, President Alexander Lukashenko has not yet made a final decision.
As reported, earlier President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that he plans to discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin the issue of placing a Russian airbase in the country. This statement was made on the eve of the elections, which Lukashenko won.
