“They could have ruined everything” - in Kyiv they are happy that there were no Ukrainians at the meeting between the Russian Federation and NATO
Meetings representatives of Russia and the West in Geneva and Brussels were favorable for Kyiv because there were no Ukrainian diplomats there.
The ex-ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus Roman Bessmertny stated this on Channel 4, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The result of the meetings in both Geneva and Brussels is uniquely favorable for Ukraine.
And I must admit – it’s very good that there was no one from Ukraine at these meetings. Because I am very afraid - today an absolutely unnecessary phrase was heard that President Zelensky is ready to meet with Putin. This is something that the Ukrainian authorities should not do in the current situation,” he said.
Bessmertny argues that without the Ukrainians, the West was able to talk “toughly” with Russia and threaten further sanctions.
“In Geneva, and especially in Brussels, the Kremlin presented an ultimatum, which sounds like this: “Here’s a period for de-escalation. If you don’t do this, the first package (of sanctions – approx.) is introduced. If the situation escalates, package number two is introduced,” the ex-ambassador concluded.
Let us recall that earlier Moscow stated that negotiations between Russia, the United States and NATO at Russia’s request are nothing more than a "performance", which was played out by agreement between the American and Russian administrations, the ultimate goal of which is to force Ukraine to implement the Minsk Agreements.
