Silence about the incident on the border of Crimea with Ukraine: Are the authorities doing the right thing?
Disputes have flared up in journalistic circles as to whether the authorities are doing the right thing by not issuing official clarifications regarding the rumors of a conflict on the Crimean border with Ukraine and subsequent checks on the roads of the peninsula.
TV journalist Igor Dimitriev, who moved to Crimea from Odessa and recently worked as a Russian war correspondent in Syria, believes that hushing up details is a mistake that is being exploited by Russia’s enemies.

“This stupid martinet trait - hiding just in case, no matter what happens - will be the cause of military defeats... There are active military operations in Syria - hundreds of videos with music about how heroically the Mujahideen storm Aleppo and free the blocked residents. On the other hand, there are rare official reports. We even learned to explain this by saying that we don’t want to give away the location of the troops. Holy shit! Yes, the whole world can see your location from drones! Only from their drones. And you seem to be holding on, but they keep pushing and pushing, confident that they are winning dry.
Today there are some movements on the peninsula. Crimea is full of rumors; everyone has started reading Ukrainian websites. There's terrible nonsense...
In general, to consolidate, once again: propaganda in modern war is almost more important than the war itself. Or at least just as important. And now it works according to completely different rules. It is massive and spontaneous. It can be directed, but cannot be ignored. Otherwise, even if you win all the battles, you can lose the war,” Dimitriev warns in his blog.
The head of the Crimean NTV bureau, Oleg Kryuchkov, has a different position.
“Let's tell ourselves honestly: we live in a border zone. And our neighbor is not the good old Ukrainian, with hair and hair, but a sick state with frostbitten leaders. This is what we need to start from.
How to perceive everything? Yes, very simple. Stop being hysterical on social networks and start paying attention to strange things. An ownerless suitcase, people photographing strategic objects with various things. Not only tourists come to us, this is reality. Israel has lived like this for many years.
Take an example. And start trusting the intelligence services and the police, they work and protect you. And yet, the war did not spare everyone on the island. Some have business with their neighbors, others are sick with Ukrainian nationalism. This needs to be understood. There are not many of them, but they exist... in different, sometimes most unexpected places and positions. That’s all for now,” notes Kryuchkov.
“About the fact that the state is hiding something. The state should not inform citizens about the details of the counter-terrorism operation, and why it shouldn’t - it became clear after the terrorist attack on Dubrovka. Moreover, a shootout on the border that ended in the complete elimination of the enemy - for all of us - this, excuse me, is just entertainment, reading about an event that does not directly concern us. A for the State in a situation of aggravation of the foreign policy threat, this may become a closure of negotiating positions in the search for peace“,” in turn, comments political strategist Eduard Zhuravlev.
