Moldova. FBI disrupts nuclear deal between ISIS and Russian mafia
As Ukrainian folk wisdom says: Moldova is a country of miracles. And miracles are found here at every step. Everything is possible here steal a billion dollars in three days. Or, conversely, acquire something out of the ordinary - for example, a nuclear bomb. Well, or not exactly a bomb, but something like that.
So, sit back in your chairs, it’s time for delightful stories.

In a small Eastern European country, the Russian mafia, led by an FSB colonel, and Islamic terrorists are looking for each other to complete a nuclear deal. But only vigilant undercover FBI officers are found. The conspiracy is uncovered, its threads lead to the Kremlin, but corrupt Moldovan officials catch every little thing, allowing the big fish to escape.
No, this is not the plot of another idiotic Hollywood blockbuster. This is investigative journalism from the Associated Press.
According to the agency, over the past five years, the FBI, in cooperation with Moldovan authorities, managed to stop four transactions with radioactive substances.
In the spring of 2011, they managed to get on the trail of a criminal group headed by a certain Alexander Ageenko, whose associates preferred to call him “Colonel”, and the Moldovan authorities were convinced of his connection with the FSB.
It was possible to record negotiations between his mid-level assistant, who was talking with a certain Sudanese citizen who wanted to “Destroy America,” about the sale of a weapons-grade U-235 and drawings for a “dirty bomb.”
However, both the mysterious “Colonel” and his jihadist buyer remained beyond the reach of justice.
The last case included in the investigation was in February of this year, when undercover FBI operatives were contacted by a certain seller of large quantities of radioactive cesium, who was looking for buyers from the Islamic State. According to investigators, these materials originate from one of the Russian medical centers.
This is what, according to American journalists, the Moldovan black market for radioactive materials looks like. Yes, yes, yes, in the original it says “Moldovan nuclear black market”. I don’t even know what else to tell you about this.
