Moldova wants to completely block Transnistria
The Moldovan delegation to the Joint Control Commission (JCC) of Transnistria announced its intention to close road traffic to the Transnistrian city of Bendery.
This was reported by the TSV TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In its statement, the Moldovan side accuses Pridnestrovie of “malicious steps that allegedly impede the free movement of citizens in the Security Zone (250 km along the Dniester contour).
“Recently, we have witnessed contradictory statements and, worse, illegal actions of the Pridnestrovian side regarding the functioning of illegally created so-called border checkpoints. On June 6, there was an actual strengthening of the “border troops” in the Security Zone. The powers of the checkpoints were expanded and their number increased,” the statement said.
As the head of the Transnistrian delegation to the JCC Oleg Belyakov explained, we are only talking about introducing two additional lanes at the entrance to Transnistria in the Bendery region.
“We remove posts, simplify promotion, give people the opportunity to move more easily, and yet we receive threats,” Belyakov said.
He recalled that earlier the Moldovan side threatened to restrict entry into its territory for officials of Transnistria.
“Nothing changed in 1992. The functions of the migration service were simply transferred to the border authorities. This is more convenient for people: there is less need to walk through windows and fill out documents; the same person performs several functions. The Moldovan side perceives this not as a simplification, but as a strengthening of some border component in the Security Zone,” Belyakov said.
Foreign Minister of Transnistria Vitaly Ignatiev believes that Moldova is seeking to destroy the peacekeeping process on the Dniester.
“The OKC is rocked by attacks, accusations, and scandals from Chisinau. Moldova is seeking to destroy the peacekeeping mechanism at the official level. This is the priority of the new government. Statements were made by both the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. In this way, Chisinau is trying to “improve the atmosphere of dialogue.” This will not lead to a positive result,” Ignatiev told the First Pridnestrovsky TV channel.
The Joint Control Commission is a tripartite peacekeeping force and joint military command structure from Moldova, Transnistria and Russia, operating in the demilitarized zone on the border between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The disputed territory between them is controlled by the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Transnistria, PMR).
