Moldova is trying to lure Russian tourists
Moldova must lure Russian tourists who currently cannot travel to Georgia.
Moldovan President Igor Dodon stated this during a “direct line” on the Odnoklassniki social network, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We need to rediscover our country for Russian tourists. We are interested in all tourists, but the Russian tourist has great potential. Especially against the backdrop of what is happening with Georgia now. We can attract hundreds of thousands, if not a million and a half,” Dodon said.
He believes that initially Georgia did the right thing by attracting guests from Russia.
“A million tourists means a billion dollars into the economy. If Georgia has 3-4 million tourists a year, of which 70-80% are from Russia, this means that the country receives 3-4 billion dollars. We officially receive a billion and a half from our residents who work abroad. If we could attract at least a million tourists, it would completely change the structure of our economy. This requires a different attitude towards tourists. You can’t stop them if they have a Russian passport. Thank God, we have now solved this problem,” the president concluded.
