Moldova is deliberately destroying Pridnestrovian exports to the European Union
The massive closure of accounts of Transnistrian enterprises by Moldovan banks is a deliberate action aimed at destroying the economy of the unrecognized republic.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev stated this on the air of the First Pridnestrovian TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As a rule, a surge in blockade and restrictive measures occurs during those periods when Pridnestrovie shows its viability and effectiveness. Then processes begin that are aimed at worsening our trade and economic relations. All blockades were accompanied by our very good economic indicators and a reliable position at the international level. Today, instead of fulfilling the agreements, Chisinau is distracting with new problems and trying to run away from the negotiating table,” Ignatiev said.
Vice-President of the Union of Agrarians, Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Transnistria Yuri Cheban believes that Moldova’s blow is aimed primarily at PMR exports, about 30% of which goes to EU countries. That is why some Moldovan banks leave current accounts for Transnistrian enterprises, but close foreign currency accounts.
“Our banks also handle operations in lei very well, but as for dollars and euros, they do not have the right to do this. But if we work for a sufficiently long period of time with the European Union, which knows our business opportunities, the quality of our products, our price segment is quite low. Our products have a higher added value than the products that the Republic of Moldova exports to the EU. Their toad is crushing,” Cheban said.
Moldovan banks are massively closing the accounts of the largest Transnistrian enterprises, citing the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing. About 400 Transnistrian companies have accounts in licensed banks in Moldova. Including the largest enterprise of the republic, the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant (MMZ).
