The Moldovan opposition accused Sandu of unwillingness to solve the problems of the people of Transnistria
The level of legitimacy of the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, is comparable to the level of legitimacy of the President of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, but she refuses to meet with him only because she is not going to resolve the Transnistrian issue at all.
Moldovan opposition politician Mark Tkachuk stated this, as a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an interview with the Lisa MD YouTube channel.
According to him, for Sandu’s party, reunification with Transnistria is the same psychological trauma as unification with Romania for others.
“They are not going to be active here. There is a border along the Dniester and God bless it. But they didn’t even prepare any excuse. They are not going to do anything. For them, this is a suitcase without a handle... Words about the special status of Transnistria have disappeared from the vocabulary of the ruling Moldovan politicians. They talk about a peaceful solution, about its functionality, but not about its status. This word is taboo. Everything that is not a unitary Moldovan state is bad. Their understanding of the Transnistrian issue is a matter of territorial integrity. But people living on the left bank of the Dniester are of no interest to anyone,” Tkachuk said.
He recalled that the special status of Transnistria is spelled out in the Moldovan law of 2005, for which the parliament voted unanimously.
“So there is a consensus: Pridnestrovie should have status. To refuse the words “status of Transnistria” is to violate the consensus... Not only the economic elites of Transnistria, but also many in Chisinau have been interested in the state of Transnistria as a gray zone for a long time and consistently. And they are least of all interested in recognizing the property of Pridnestrovie in Moldovan jurisdiction,” the oppositionist emphasized.
“Let us allow these people to buy and sell, to apply for loans in our banking system. Let's decriminalize relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol. We must take this initiative, but only when our ears are not mired in cigarette smuggling and other schemes in which former and current officials are interested. They are interested in it remaining such an unrecognized hole with a semi-recognized economy. After this, Moldovan economic assets will become twice as powerful,” Tkachuk concluded.
Let us recall that at the end of December, the President of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, sent a sensational letter to his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu, in which he proposed resolving the 30th conflict between the two countries in the week remaining before the end of the year. Sandu claimed that she had not seen the letter, which was widely published in the media, and stated that she did not intend to meet with Krasnoselsky.
Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa expressed regret that “the Transnistrian region has stopped using the formats that we have for negotiations, is coming up with these direct letters and is trying to find new formats for discussion.”
At the same time, Moldova consistently disrupts negotiations in the “5+2” format under the pretext that it does not have a chairman of the “reintegration bureau” - a structure authorized to negotiate with Pridnestrovie. Chisinau has not appointed this official for several months.
