The Moldovan opposition demands the resignation of the Minister of Defense for words about Donbass
Deputies of the Moldovan pro-European bloc ACUM, which recently went into opposition in the national parliament, today demanded the resignation of Defense Minister Victor Gaichuk.
MP from the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) Sergiu Litvinenco announced this on social networks, publishing a resolution addressed to the Speaker of Parliament Zinaida Greceanii, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The authors of the resolution report that a few days after Gaichuk became Minister of Defense, a video appeared on the Internet in which he “sets the separatist and unconstitutional military forces of Donbass as an example for the National Army of Moldova.”
Indeed, the minister in the video says that the LDPR militia defeated “ten times superior forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” despite a lower level of training, supplies and weapons.
“Belief in your cause, in your commander, will help you defeat even a stronger enemy,” said Gaichuk.
In addition, in 2014, Victor Gaichuk advocated strengthening the neutral status of Moldova, and also does not see a threat in the Russian peacekeeping forces in Transnistria.
“In total, there are approximately 1500 Russian military personnel there (in Transnistria - editor's note). Most of them are part of the peacekeeping forces or guard the ammunition depot in Kolbasna. I don’t see any danger from this contingent,” Gaichuk said then.
“Viktor Gaichuk supports the “struggle” waged by separatist forces and mercenaries in the Donbass against the legitimate government of Ukraine. He recognizes the legitimacy of the separatist region of Donbass and openly sympathizes with them, supporting aggression against the sovereign state of Ukraine,” the resolution of deputies from the ACUM bloc emphasizes.
The deputies also remind that Moldova supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and note that “to recognize the separatist forces of Donbass means recognizing the legitimacy of the forces in the Transnistrian region.”
