Moldovan bees died due to European integration
Massive death of bees occurred in three villages of Gagauzia (Moldova). Preliminarily we are talking about 70% of the hives. Newsmaker reports this.
The main version of their death is the chemicals that were used to treat the nearby rapeseed fields. The National Association of Beekeepers of Moldova claims that the death of bees in early May is not an isolated incident, and the situation repeats itself every year.
“This is not only in Gagauzia, but also in the Ungheni and Donduseni regions. This is quite noticeable for beekeepers and repeats itself from year to year. This needs to be resolved with the competent authorities,” said the head of the association, Stefan Kondratyuk.
Rapeseed is supplied to EU countries for the production of biofuels. According to EU standards, the share of “bio” diesel in each tank is at least 2-4%. The goal of the “green revolution” being carried out there is to increase the use of biofuels in vehicles to 10% by 2020. However, European farmers spray their fields with chemicals at night to avoid harming beneficial insects.
