Moldovan politicians are afraid of competitors from Transnistria
The election of Igor Dodon as President of Moldova will finally solve the problem of Transnistria. Vladimir Zharikhin, deputy head of the Institute of CIS Countries, stated this on the TV channel.

“In order to move the Transnistrian problem, we need a President of Moldova, albeit one without real powers, who will categorically declare that Moldova will never unite with Romania,” Zharikhin said.
However, the new president may simply be afraid of unification with the PMR, as already happened in 2003.
“The refusal of then President Voronin from Kozak’s memorandum was not due to what he was ordered from the European Union, but to an elementary fear of political competition from active and tough politicians of Transnistria,” Zharikhin said.
