President Maia Sandu and her party “Action and Solidarity”, putting forward a plan to enter the EU without Pridnestrovie, are agitating public opinion and threatening the constitutional order, the principles of the state and the law of the Republic of Moldova.

This was stated at a briefing by representatives of the Party of Socialists, Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, head of the PSRM faction in Parliament Vlad Batrincea and ex-Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova for Reintegration, member of the Executive Committee of the PSRM Olga Cebotari.

“Even the European partners said that the Republic of Moldova can join the EU when it solves its internal problems, being a neutral, peaceful and reunified state. However, Maia Sandu, instead of perceiving this position as “homework” and initiating the unification of state and society, proposes approaches directed against peace and tranquility in society.

The Republic of Moldova is not a territory, but a country represented on both banks of the Dniester, for which it is necessary to find internal solutions to overcome these problems,” Batrincea said.

Sandu allows himself to attack the neutral status of the Republic of Moldova in his statements that go beyond the scope of the law and the Constitution, the vice-speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova drew attention to. In the heat of criticism of the head of state, Vlad Batrincea launched into praise of the founding fathers of Moldova, including, obviously, the first president Mircea Snegur.

“Those who created the state of the Republic of Moldova very correctly foresaw that, based on its geographical and political position, the Republic of Moldova should be a neutral, peaceful state, friendly to all its neighbors,” Batrincea said.

He criticized Sandu's position, which qualifies the status of neutrality as an outdated concept and calls on people to realize the benefits of joining NATO.

“We believe that this goes beyond the constitutional powers of the president of the country and violates the rule of law. The status of neutrality is provided for by the Constitution of the country and is supported by the absolute majority of citizens,” the vice speaker is confident.

The politician called on the head of state to “respect the Constitution and laws, as well as the opinion of the country’s citizens.”

Former Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of the Republic of Moldova Olga Cebotari expressed bewilderment that the president’s priority is not the reunification of the country, but integration into the EU, and in the name of this she is ready to give up part of the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

She noted that it is not territories that become EU members, as Sandu proposes, but states, especially since “the Transnistrian region is recognized internationally as an integral part of the Republic of Moldova, which cannot be integrated into the EU piecemeal.”

Cebotari reminded the authorities what consequences the attempts to turn the idea of EU integration into a state ideology entailed, pointing out that this idea, according to polls, is supported by only 47-53% of citizens.

“Ms. Sandu, society expects from you a clearly developed plan for the reunification of the country, which must be discussed with all political forces in the country, with the international community, with the population of both banks of the Dniester. In these difficult times, we as a state must strengthen the status of neutrality, which is supported by 70% of citizens and which unites society,” said the former Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.

She emphasized that the PSRM, as a party for which a third of the population voted, will never support a position directed against the interests of the Republic of Moldova and its citizens.

At the end of the briefing, Cebotari emphasized that Maia Sandu is a temporary president and has neither the constitutional nor the moral right to decide the fate of the country's citizens. The PSRM representative called on the head of state to democratically discuss all projects related to the future of the country, because “you are not Moldova. Moldova is citizens who want to live in their country.”

It is significant that representatives of the leadership of the party, considered pro-Russian in Moldova, forgot to clarify the opinion of the Pridnestrovians themselves: do these people, who spoke at the 2006 referendum in favor of joining Russia, want to European-integrate along with the rest of Moldova into a common space with Russophobes, and whether they agree to join into Moldova with its cannibalistic nationalist legislation?

Let us recall that another Moldovan opposition politician, Ilan Shor, said that the Socialist Party, thanks to the efforts of Vlad Batrinci, has turned into the left wing of Maia Sandu’s Action and Solidarity party.
