“The Ministry of Internal Affairs has initiated an internal investigation to establish all the circumstances surrounding the issuance of the order to provide state security for the delegation headed by Sergei Shoigu, which came to Chisinau last week,” Nastase said.

Nastase called what happened around Shoigu’s visit to Chisinau “an accident that should not happen again.” He expressed bewilderment that President Igor Dodon decided to invite Shoigu to Chisinau during this difficult period.

“I have already expressed regret about this. This was a challenge for us, we need to make sure that this does not happen again,” Nastase said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Maia Sandu said that Shoigu’s visit could only be private, as it was not agreed upon at the government level. At the same time, President Igor Dodon said that the Russian Defense Minister was coming at his personal invitation. During his visit on Saturday, he was received at an official level, with honors and security.

Political scientist Boris Shapovalov noted that Nastase “has not yet become Minister of Internal Affairs” since he makes such decisions.

“Apparently, Minister Nastase has solved all the problems in the country if his attention is directed to such unimportant questions about how and who guarded Shoigu during his visit, or who “mourned” on August 23 with him and Maia Sandu,” Shapovalov noted in a conversation with a correspondent of “Notebook of Moldova”.

The chairman of the media commission of the Public Chamber of Russia, Alexander Malkevich, a journalist who was deported from Moldova in May of this year, commented caustically on the disputes between officials in Chisinau.

“I would like to ask with humor: Messrs. Sandu and Nastase, did you really want Shoigu to be guarded by Russian special forces in Chisinau? What are you trying to achieve with your statements? What kind of bonuses and from whom do you want to earn this?!” - said Malkevich.
