The Moldovan parliament remembered Russian voters
The Parliament of Moldova has launched a Russian-language version of its official website.
This was reported by the Actuality website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to note that the translation of the site into Russian does not include state budget expenses. At the same time, the impact on the level of awareness and access to information of citizens increases with the launch of the Russian version of the site, given that, according to the 2014 census, about 400 thousand citizens of the Republic of Moldova declared that they usually speak Russian,” said the speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Zinaida Grechany.
In 2016, UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Rita Ijak-Ndiaye called on Moldovan authorities to provide minority language versions for official websites. By the decision of the Council for the Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring Equality of 2018, the absence of a Russian version of the parliament’s website is qualified as discrimination based on language.
