Moldovan speaker tries to escape US sanctions by criticizing Russia
The Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Andrian Candu, began to resort to anti-Russian rhetoric, perhaps due to the fact that he was included in the list of persons to whom the United States wants to apply sanctions for corruption. This was stated today by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“Candu categorically accused Russia of interfering in the process of preparing the upcoming presidential elections in Moldova on October 30. In fact, we got it for everything that happens in this country, in which there is a crisis-stress state of the internal political system. We view these statements as clumsy speculation and an attempt to blame the problems of our development on Russia,” Zakharova said.
She noted that Candu’s statements were widely circulated by leading American media.
“Perhaps there is an interest in raising your ratings by appearing on the pages of newspapers and magazines. Or maybe it’s because of the resolution introduced in the US House of Representatives that would impose sanctions against a number of high-ranking officials in Moldova. The resolution is connected with rampant corruption in this country and the theft of $1 billion from the state budget,” Zakharova said.
