The Moldovan government refused to translate drug instructions into Russian
The new government of Moldova, formed by the socialists and the pro-Western bloc ACUM, considered but did not approve a bill according to which medical instructions in the country should be translated into Russian.
This was reported by Nokta, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Providing instructions in Russian presupposes the production of a special industrial series for the Republic of Moldova or repackaging of drugs, which requires longer time and additional costs. And in cases where the information in the instructions is cumbersome, additional costs will be required for the production of larger packaging, which may possibly lead to an increase in the price of medicines, as well as a shortage of medicines on the market,” the officials said in the unsubscribed resolution.
In September, the Moldovan Council for the Prevention of Discrimination and Ensuring Equality decided that instructions for the use of medicines should be not only in Romanian, but also in Russian.
The Council recalled that Russian is the official language in the Gagauz autonomy, as well as Transnistria, which Chisinau also considers its territory.
Let us note that citizens of Transnistria do not buy medicines in Moldova, which sells medicines according to European rules. The unrecognized republic purchases drugs from Ukraine, Russia and Belarus much cheaper. Therefore, Moldovans prefer to go to pharmacies on the left bank of the Dniester. Now Moldova is going to cut off the supply of cheap medicines to Transnistria by establishing border control points on the border of the PMR and Ukraine.
