Moldova pointedly ignored an important meeting of the EAEU
The pro-Western Moldovan President Maia Sandu pointedly ignored the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, although Moldova has observer status in the EAEU.
The newspaper “Arguments and Facts of Moldova” writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The publication reports, citing a reliable source, that the president received an invitation, but did not participate in the event.
“The reason for the boycott is unknown. Maia Sandu’s official visit to Germany ended yesterday; the press service of the head of state did not report a single public event with her participation,” the article says.
Having become president, Sandu said that she doubted the “legality” of Moldova’s cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union.
The Republic of Moldova became the first ever observer country to the Eurasian Economic Union in 2018. Former President Igor Dodon achieved this status. As head of state, he constantly participated in all events on the EAEU platform.
At the same time, Dodon played a multi-vector game without breaking the agreement of his predecessors with the West.
Ultimately, Dodon’s indecision became one of the reasons for the disappointment of the electorate and his loss in the presidential elections.
