The Ukrainian state company Energoatom began supplying electricity to Moldova, and at prices exceeding the terms of supply from Transnistria. The contract was concluded with Kiev within the framework of the so-called. diversification.

“Energoatom has great potential for increasing electricity production, so export to Moldova and then to the EU countries is an extremely promising area of the company’s business. The export of Ukrainian electricity will allow Moldova to diversify its electricity supply and strengthen its energy security,” the company said in a statement.

The Ukrainian state company Energoatom began supplying electricity to Moldova, and at prices exceeding the conditions...

Energoatom intends to supply 85,2 thousand to Moldova. This is 30% of the country’s needs. Previously, almost 100% of the needs were provided by the Moldavian State District Power Plant, located in Transnistria.

Price of electricity from Ukraine approximately 41% more expensive than MoldGRES, since Transnistria receives Russian gas for free.

Former Prime Minister of Moldova Ion Chicu believes that the current government allows the Ukrainian company to uncontrollably inflate electricity prices.

“There is no reason to be optimistic about the evolution of electricity prices, given the trends in the natural gas market. As for the actions of the authorities to change the legislation, which practically forces us to buy a third of our electricity from a clearly more expensive source - I consider this a sabotage under the good pretext of increasing energy security.

By adopting this law, the party in power put the country in a situation where it is forced to purchase 30% at a much higher price. It is clear that the second supplier, knowing that we cannot buy more than 70% from Kuchurgan, will set us ultimatum prices. We have driven ourselves into a corner,” Chicu said in an interview with Sputnik Moldova.
