Moldova will face energy problems early next year when the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine is significantly reduced. President of Moldova Igor Dodon stated this today on the Accent TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We will stop receiving the money we have received so far for transit to the Balkans. These millions of dollars went to compensate for the domestic tariff. There may also be problems with gas supplies,” Dodon said.

Moldova and Transnistria receive 3 billion cubic meters of gas annually between them. Dodon believes that it is necessary to look for workarounds for these volumes.

“We can come to an agreement with Russia and think through other transit schemes - via Nord Stream or South Stream. We could also try to use our observer status in the EurAsEC to agree on the abolition of customs duties,” Dodon said.
