Moldova, which has nowhere to sell its fruits and vegetables, will turn to Ukraine for help
Chisinau, July 23 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) – The Moldovan authorities are looking for a way out of the crisis due to Russia’s suspension of the export of Moldovan vegetables, fruits and canned food from them. According to Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, Chisinau, in particular, is counting on help from Ukraine.

“I intend to contact my Ukrainian colleague Arseniy Yatsenyuk and ask for support,” he told reporters.
He also noted that the European Union intends to double the quota for the supply of Moldovan apples to EU markets and that Chisinau has appealed to the EU leadership to shift the start date of the agreements from October 1 to September 1.
“For our partners in the EU, not only the good taste of apples is important, but also the requirements of packaging and sizing standards,” Leancă clarified.
The prime minister said that in order to support farmers, the government would allocate 20 million lei for the purchase of apples for the army and kindergartens, and promised “transparency in this matter.”
The head of government admitted that his meeting with producers and processors of fruits and vegetables, which took place the day before, did not bring concrete results.
“The parties to the meeting did not reach a consensus on resolving the issue. But we will continue consultations. As one of the solutions, we see an increase in the volume of processing of fruits and vegetables into juices, jams, marmalades, and preserves. We also intend to ask the owners of retail chains to raise domestic goods from the lower shelves higher,” Leanca said, as quoted by the portal noi.md.
As previously reported, Russia suspended the import of Moldovan fruits and canned fruits and vegetables, citing “a large number of violations in the supply of products.” Losses for Moldovan farmers could amount to $150 million.
