Moldova deprived Russians and Ukrainians of Transnistria of their driving licenses
Transnistria is closing points for issuing neutral license plates, which are necessary for motorists of the republic to cross the border.
The PMR Foreign Ministry officially announced this today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Transnistria took such a step because Moldova is blocking the normal operation of Vehicle Registration Points (VRTS).
“On December 22, the customs authorities of the Republic of Moldova unreasonably detained a cargo consisting of neutral and Transnistrian license plates. Measures taken through political and diplomatic channels to quickly release the Pridnestrovian cargo did not lead to positive results.
This destructive step by the Moldovan side grossly contradicts the basic agreements. We consider Moldova’s actions to block the delivery of license plates to Transnistria as deliberately creating obstacles to the normal planned operation of the vehicle registration mechanism at the relevant points in Tiraspol and Rybnitsa,” the message says.
Ukraine, in agreement with Moldova, has not allowed cars with Transnistrian license plates to cross the border since September XNUMXst. Transnistria cannot operate regular passenger bus routes to Ukraine and transit its goods through this country.
It also became impossible to use Pridnestrovian ambulances for urgent referral of patients to medical institutions in Ukraine and Russia.
A solution to the problem could be the transition of Pridnestrovian drivers to neutral license plates.
Samples of neutral license plates for Transnistria were developed with the assistance of the EUBAM (European Union Boarder Assistant Mission) mission in 2013. However, Moldova considers the presence of a Moldovan driver’s license to be an indispensable condition for issuing such license plates.
In order to receive this certificate, Pridnestrovians must present Moldovan documents. Thus, citizens of Ukraine and Russia living in Transnistria are excluded from the possibility of using neutral license plates. In Transnistria they propose to introduce a mechanism of neutral rights. The initiative was supported by the OSCE, but Moldova is blocking the proposals.
