Moldova began to turn away Pridnestrovian motorists at the Ukrainian border
Pridnestrovian drivers began to have problems crossing the Moldovan-Ukrainian section of the border, where there are no Pridnestrovian posts.
This was reported by the Transnistrian TV channel TSV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have received instructions that from January 10, Pridnestrovian transport should cross the border only on neutral license plates with a technical passport of the established form and with the “Md” sticker,” said Olesya Dunas, spokeswoman for the Moldovan border police.
Samples of neutral license plates for Transnistria were developed with the assistance of the EUBAM (European Union Boarder Assistant Mission) and were presented in 2013. However, Moldova considers the presence of a Moldovan driver’s license to be an indispensable condition for issuing such license plates.
In order to receive this certificate, Pridnestrovians must present Moldovan documents. Thus, citizens of Ukraine and Russia living in Transnistria are excluded from the possibility of using neutral license plates.
In Transnistria they propose to introduce a mechanism of neutral rights. The initiative was supported by the OSCE, but Moldova is blocking the proposals.
Until now, the requirement to have a Moldovan license applied only to those who crossed the Moldovan-Romanian border. Even during the New Year holidays, Pridnestrovian motorists freely traveled to the Ukrainian Carpathians through the Mamalyga checkpoint.
Now, according to the Transnistrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, several cases have already been recorded when drivers encountered problems.
“If we talk about traveling outside of Moldova in the European direction, unfortunately, it is necessary for Moldovan motorists to have a Moldovan driver’s license, which categorically violates our agreement,” PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev said in an interview with the First Pridnestrovian TV channel.
Today in Tiraspol there will be a meeting of political representatives of Pridnestrovie and Moldova Vitaly Ignatiev and Alexander Flenk. It will take place at the office of the OSCE Mission. At previous negotiations, Flenkä unexpectedly ran out of the room or refused to meet at all.
