Moldova: Anti-Russian “Plan B” has begun
Having been defeated in parliament, the Moldovan pro-European coalition took revenge a few hours later in the Constitutional Court of Moldova.
Let us remind you that on Thursday the Moldovan parliament, by 56 votes out of 101, decided to approve a Russian loan in the amount of 200 million euros. Moldova needs this money to cover the budget deficit, and specifically to pay pensions and salaries to public sector employees in May. All this should also help Igor Dodon to be re-elected in the upcoming presidential elections.
In this regard, the opposition spent a week hysterically in the media about “Russian aggression.” Many Moldovan experts are sure that opponents of the loan are fulfilling an order from Western curators who are afraid to give this small country under the influence of Russia and China.
When the opposition was defeated in parliament, “Plan B” was used. The judges of the Moldovan Constitutional Court quickly removed their chairman, Vladimir Turcan, who is considered the creation of the country's President Igor Dodon. He was replaced by pro-European opposition protégé Domnica Manole.
The first decision of the Constitutional Court under the new chairman was the suspension of the parliamentary resolution on the Russian loan. The final decision on the “aggressive” 200 million euros will be made on Tuesday.
“This means I won’t be able to sign it tomorrow or Monday, but I wasn’t in a rush. If we imagine that this agreement with the Russian Federation will be canceled, then we will not have money for road repairs, investment projects, as well as social payments, will be at risk, the effect will be very negative,” President of Moldova Igor Dodon commented on the scandalous decision of the Constitutional Court in broadcast on the NTV Moldova TV channel.
The fact that the Constitutional Court, even headed by Vladimir Turcan, is in opposition to the government and the president, became clear 10 days ago, when the judges canceled the package of socio-economic measures in the context of the epidemic, proposed by Prime Minister Ion Chicu. Thus, the Constitutional Court satisfied the appeal of the same pro-European opposition.
It is noteworthy that yesterday’s decision was made not at all from pro-Europeans, but from the Pro Moldova group. It includes former deputies from the Democratic Party of the criminal oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc, who fled the country. A couple of months ago they left the faction in protest against the coalition with “pro-Russian” socialists. These people do not hide the fact that they still keep in touch with their patron Plahotniuc.
Thus, in the conflict over the Russian loan, the pro-European coalition suddenly found itself in an alliance with a political force that it had always squeamishly shunned - with corrupt officials and criminals. This is a significant blow to the reputation of the “fair-faced” opposition leader Maia Sandu. Apparently, she could not help but heed the persistent advice of her Western supervisors.
