Moldova hopes to once again strangle Transnistria together with Ukraine
Moldova wants to establish new joint border control points with Ukraine on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border.
This was stated by Prime Minister Maia Sandu, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Unfortunately, now there are no internal and external conditions for an immediate political solution. All we can do is fight corruption schemes and smuggling through the Transnistrian region. I hope that in the near future we will sign protocols with Ukraine to increase the number of joint control points at the border,” infotag.md quotes Sandu.
Ukraine and Moldova opened joint checkpoints on the Transnistrian border in 2017. Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky regarded this step as the beginning of an economic blockade of the unrecognized republic.
In September, Moldova announced new problems for Transnistria related to the supply of food and medicine. She links the start of these restrictions with the introduction of joint customs and border control with Ukraine on the border of Transnistria.
