Moldova does not want to suffer again from the gas dispute between Russia and Ukraine
Chisinau, June 16 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) – The European Union and Moldova should not suffer from a new gas war between Ukraine and Russia. Problems may arise if, to cover domestic needs, Ukraine takes fuel from the gas pipeline supplying the European market.

The Moldovan news portal Publika writes about this today, noting that such a scenario is still unlikely, since Kyiv has filled its underground storage facilities.
The publication notes that Ukraine is an important transit country for Russian gas. Fuel is supplied to Moldova via two gas pipelines, each of which passes through Transnistria. At the same time, both Moldova and Ukraine depend on Russian gas.
Economist Viorel Gharbu believes that if the situation worsens, the Republic of Moldova “will suffer, as has already happened, but at the moment there is no reason to worry.”
“We can only suffer if Ukraine interferes with the transit process to other consumers,” he said.
Director of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (NARE) Viktor Parlikov believes that “there is a risk of shutdown.”
“The situation of 2009 may repeat itself (in January 2009, due to the gas crisis caused by the economic dispute between Russia and Ukraine, a number of European countries were left without gas - approx. red.). Moldova will be affected if the Ukrainian Naftogaz takes fuel from the transit system. For now we cannot talk about the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline, for now there is only Iasi-Ungheni, which we hope will soon be put into operation. It is obvious that this gas pipeline is not enough to ensure energy security,” he noted.
Economists emphasize that Gazprom is not considering the possibility of stopping fuel transit through Ukraine.
An extraordinary meeting of the Security Council will be held in Transnistria this evening, where issues of ensuring the energy security of the republic will be considered in connection with the fact that Gazprom has transferred Naftogaz of Ukraine to prepayment for gas supplies.
